En Verlaine mineur

Ricardo Viñes is well known as a virtuoso pianist, and many great composers, including Debussy, Ravel, Satie, and Mompou, dedicated works to him. On the other hand, Viñes’ activity as a composer seems to be explored much less, though he is the author of few works indeed.
I transcribed for solo guitar his En Verlaine mineur, a piece dedicated to the memory of Fauré and published posthumously in a collection entitled Quatre Hommages. The date of composition is unknown, though it’s presumed to have been written no earlier than 1924, the year of Fauré’s passing, and no later than 1927. As a piece for guitar, it happens to work well in its original key.
